5 second films

Posted by Michael Matyas on February 04, 2010

Well guys we are finishing up our first project after the minimonster final, the 5second films. Make sure you keep it in the typical order of 2 second intro, 5 second clip, then 1 second for the end. Yes that means each 5 second film should be 8 seconds. Keep in mind they will be due the end of class friday, 2/4/10.

Mini Monsters

Posted by Michael Matyas on January 20, 2010

Good job with your MiniMonsters. I will be getting your films online hopefully this evening. As Babbitt said, you should all spend this time at the movies, we don’t want you to worry about them for now. Have a good finals week.  grin

Fixed!

Video Productions Year 6 Begins!

Posted by Daniel Hollister on August 27, 2008

Well, the sixth year of the class began today. For the first time, Video Productions now has two sections—third and fifth period. We’re happy to be giving so many kids this year the opportunity to immerse themselves in an incredible filmmaking journey.

That’s a Wrap!

Posted by Daniel Hollister on June 13, 2008

Well, the 2007-2008 Video Productions class is officially over. There are no words to describe how impressed I am with all the projects and everyone in the class. You are all amazing. Also thanks to Matt, Natalie, and Jonathan for sticking it out this year as the hardworking student teachers. I look forward to seeing next year’s classes and the new group of student-teachers!

All movies that are not online right now will be up very soon, and they’ll also be on YouTube shortly. Definitely go check them out, as they are very impressive. Again, thanks to everyone for being awesome. I am honored to have been apart of this year’s class. Best of luck to everyone!

Monsters Are Completed

Posted by Daniel Hollister on June 10, 2008

The Monster projects have been completed and are now available online. The previous short films which have not yet been uploaded will be up very soon, I promise. Congratulations to the students for their awesome work!

Recent Short Films…

Posted by Matt McCartney on April 08, 2008

The most recent projects that students accomplished, the Short Films (2), will be posted soon. But we are first giving a chance for the students to re-edit and perfect the films. Hopefully this will be done in an editing night next week.

Details are still being worked out, but will be posted here after being determined.

Homework? Yes!

Posted by Daniel Hollister on April 06, 2008

Believe it or not, the VP kids actually have a homework assignment, a rarity in this class. Details are in the sidebar.

Monster Projects

Posted by Daniel Hollister on April 04, 2008

We’re all done with our last projects, and now it’s onto the last project of the year—the Monster. Today was the official beginning of the preproduction phase of the Monster projects, the 20-minute finale of the Video Productions program. We hope to see some of the best projects VP has ever had! Please check the sidebar for deadlines and other important information regarding this project. Good luck!

Hahaha!

Everyone better turn in 40 pages tomorrow. Work, miserable slaves, work! Plus we are watching your projects tomorrow. Be good children.

Projects Are Done!

Posted by Matt McCartney on March 21, 2008

The first project of the semester, the Short Films, are now finished. All three groups successfully completed their films and the class will screen them together when we come back from Spring Break on Tuesday, April 1st. After the screening, the projects will be posted online.

Students will now prepare for the final project of the year—The Monster. This film will take the remainder of the year and will be a minimum of 30 minutes long. More information on this to come… And with that, have a wonderful Spring Break, because when we come back, we go full force into the most fun, stressful, and fulfilling part of the year.

Editing Night!

Posted by Matt McCartney on March 18, 2008

The Short Films are due at the end of this week! Therefore we have scheduled an editing night for this Thursday, March 20th from 3pm until midnight. I strongly encourage all students to take advantage of this time. This is a privilege and it should not be taken lightly. And on that note - work hard and have fun!

The Forums Are Back!

Posted by Daniel Hollister on February 22, 2008

Enough said. Check them out.

Archives Are Up

Posted by Daniel Hollister on February 22, 2008

We’ve begun rolling out the archive videos for Video Productions. This morning we’ve released all the videos from the 2006-2007 school year. You may view them here.

Revision

Posted by Matt McCartney on February 12, 2008

Our speaker, Judy Bouley, actually came down with the flu recently and was not able to make it on her scheduled date. But she has agreed to reschedule for February 19th.

Finally we also are starting to get up some of the projects the students have done… Sorry it has taken so long… Many technical difficulties. But nonetheless we are restlessly trying to get all the accomplished videos up as soon as possible. If you want to check out the music videos and the other videos that have already gone up, click here

We’re working hard, and if there are any difficulties or problems be sure to contact us

Also…

Posted by Matt McCartney on January 29, 2008

In other quick news/announcements, on February 8th, accomplished producer Judy Bouley has agreed to come into the class and teach the students about what it is like to be a producer and what the job involves. It should be very interesting, and we are very privileged to have her. The lecture is also available to students not in the class who would be interested, but please only come if you are coming to learn, disrespect will not be tolerated.

One Semester Down, One to Go!

Posted by Matt McCartney on January 29, 2008

Congratulations to the Video Productions class for completing semester one with all “A"s and “B"s! Now that the first semester is over, students are ready for a more independent but harder semester as they begin preparing for their Monster Video/ Project.

The semester will begin with a break, consisting of lessons on lighting, more screenwriting, and higher level production. But then we will begin another short film to be the final preparation before the Monster, which will be an “all original” 30 minute feature. Again, congrats to the class, and semester two, although hard, will be the time of your lives!

Half Over Already!

Posted by Matt McCartney on January 17, 2008

Well, it looks like our journey through Video Productions is nearing the halfway point. I know you are bogged down by the rest of your classes and cramming for finals, so if you paid attention in class this semester, the final will be a breeze. It’s 50 multiple choice questions. Easy. Plus we are reviewing these last few days before the final in class so you don’t need to study at home. However, now is the time to enjoy the small amount of work in the class. Next semester, as the projects get bigger leading up to your monster, things might get a bit crazy! Best of luck on your finals, hang in there everybody.

Winter Break

Posted by Matt McCartney on December 27, 2007

Students are now on Winter Break but have elected to begin their music videos one day prior to their break. They will have the the two and half weeks or so before finals to complete the music videos, which when put together with the time they will have during the break, should be plenty of time.

In other news, the final for the first semester of the class will be a multiple choice test concerning film history (which will be taught in the weeks preceding the final by Drake Woosley, who also happens to be a student in the class) and other technical details of both the camera and on-set techniques.

The problem regarding posting the films has been resolved, but it will be a bit longer because I am currently across the nation without the hard disk on which the films are stored. I apologize, but the films will be up as soon as I am back home. Thank you all for your patience.

Project 2 Is Done!

Posted by Matt McCartney on November 13, 2007

Students have now finished their Project 2 short films, and they will be posted online very soon. For the next two weeks the class will be working on improving skills such as cinematography, lighting, advanced Final Cut Pro, advanced Screenwriting, and producing.

Insomnia and Servers

Posted by Daniel Hollister on October 20, 2007

Apple has opened voting for their Insomnia Film Festival. Our SVHS group’s project can be seen (and voted upon) by going here. The main festival page can be reached here.

On the website front, everything should now be back to normal—movies, forums, everything—except it should be a little faster and more reliable. If anything is not working as it should, please let one of us know.

Changing Web Servers

Posted by Daniel Hollister on October 19, 2007

The Video Productions website is currently moving to a newer (better and faster) web server. This shouldn’t involve more downtime, however the movies will not function until this has completed. No data is lost when we do these moves, and this should be the last one for a long time.

Apple’s Insomnia Film Festival

Posted by Jonathan Schlaepfer on October 05, 2007

Congratulations to the five students in video productions who have decided to pull together and make an entry for Apple’s Insomnia Film Festival. On October 13th, Joe Stefanko, Carlos Lopez, Grady Brannan, Natalie Aber and Rachael Ma will compete with thousands of other filmmakers across the United States to create a prize-worthy film in only 24 hours. Wish them luck and keep that Saturday open, just in case they need some help. tongue laugh

New website Is Up!

Posted by Daniel Hollister on September 27, 2007

Well folks, it looks like we’ve finally gotten it working. Video Productions’ long-awaited website is up. It’s far from done; we’ll be rolling out all sorts of new features over time. But at least it’s online, and the most important part is done—your movies are on it!

The first updates to be coming soon will be getting the Lessons, Students, and Photos pages working. Shortly after that, we’ll upload most moves from previous years onto the website, as well. Basically, the site is going to rock so keep checking up on it and supporting it! Thanks a ton, and I hope you enjoy it.

Students are working on their 5 second films and their old projects are now available online, including Minimonsterz!  Stay tuned!
